Young officer Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari (23) was sacrificed in Sikkim while saving the life of his partner. Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari of the Army’s Sikkim Scout Unit was a resident of Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh. He was sacrificed on Thursday while saving his fellow soldier during an operational work in North Sikkim. He was appointed in the Army on December 14, 2024, just six months ago. Shashank was leading the route opening petrol (ROP) towards a Tactical Operating Base (TOB).
The base was being prepared as an important outpost for the future deployment of the army. At around 11 am, Agnivir Stephen Subba, who was involved in petrol, lost balance while crossing a wooden bridge and was swept away in a hill river with strong current. Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari jumped into a dangerous stream, introducing vigilance, leadership and dedication. He also jumped into the river with a soldier hero call. The two together rescued Agniveer by drowning. But unfortunately Lieutenant Tiwari was shed with him. His body was recovered 800 meters below at around 11.30 am.
Shashank was the only child of parents
Shashank, a native of Gadopur Majhwa village in Ayodhya, was the only child of his parents. His father is a retired seller of the Indian Navy. Lieutenant Tiwari completed his schooling in Ayodhya.
CM of Sikkim paid tribute
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang paid tribute to the sacrifice soldier on social media. He said that the sad sacrifice of Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari was deeply saddened. His courage, a sense of duty and commitment to the country will always be remembered.
