Ramesh Kumar (38), a resident of Sohawal, fractured his hand when he fell while working in the field. When he reached a physiotherapy center in Sohawal, a person present there applied plaster twice. When the plaster was removed the last time, his hand was found to be crooked. Later when he reached the district hospital, ortho surgeon Dr. Ashish Srivastava operated on him and fixed his hand.

There was swelling in the knee, kept feeding medicine

When Ramjagat Pandey (52), a resident of Ibrahimpur in Khandasa police station area, had swelling and movement problems in his left knee, he went to a physiotherapy center in Sohawal. A person there introduced himself as an orthopedic specialist and claimed to provide quick relief. When he did not get relief despite taking medicines for three months, he went to the district hospital on Friday.

Ayodhya. These two cases are just a sample. Similarly, in the illegal clinics opened at various places in the district, quacks are twisting the bones of patients by calling themselves bone specialists. When the case gets worse, they give up citing complications. Later, when the patient reaches big hospitals, he has to suffer double pain.

The syndicate of quacks is getting stronger in the district. These quacks, who used to treat minor diseases like cold, cough and fever, now claim to be specialists as well. They are exploiting patients by opening illegal clinics in the name of physiotherapy centres and naturopathy treatment centres etc. Some of them are said to be colleagues of some big ortho surgeon, while some call themselves specialists after working as assistants for some time here and there. Every day one or two patients reach the district hospital and medical college suffering from wrong treatment by quacks.

After bones are broken in accidents, plastering is done haphazardly. The patients have to suffer the consequences of this for several weeks even after plastering. Either they have to undergo surgery after facing many problems or they have to live with disability. They are exploiting patients by opening illegal clinics at various places from cities to villages, but the health department officials are not keeping an eye on them.

A campaign will be launched against all kinds of quacks. All superintendents have been directed to take action against them and send the report by Saturday. If the report is not received by Saturday, an explanation will be sought from the concerned person.
