Kumarganj. The three-day meeting of the 42nd Annual Group of All India Coordinated Potato Research Project began on Sunday in the auditorium of Agri Business Management of Agriculture University. About 150 vegetable scientists from different states participated in the meeting. Chief guest Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi said that the government will give an incentive of Rs 25 thousand per hectare to the farmers of Uttar Pradesh who produce potato seeds.
The Agriculture Minister said that the government is ready to help the farmers at every step. He said that farmers should take full advantage of the schemes of the Central and State Government. The government has established potato processing industries and new cold storages at various places so that farmers do not have to face any kind of problem.
Special guest, Deputy Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, Dr. SK Singh said that farmers need to cultivate potatoes through organic methods. If farmers cultivate through organic methods, then potato production will increase as well as it will prove beneficial for health. Vice Chancellor Dr. Bijendra Singh, who was presiding over the program, advised to adopt the technique of intercropping of other crops in potato cultivation in Uttar Pradesh. On this occasion, he demanded to establish a center for potato and onion research in the university.
Director of Central Potato Research Institute Shimla Dr. Brijesh Singh presented a detailed annual report of the research being done on potatoes. He also told about the newly developed potato variety. Director Research of the University Dr. AK Gangwar presented a brief report of the research. Dean of Horticulture and Forestry College Dr. Sanjay Pathak coordinated the program. In the program, girl students presented the college song. On this occasion, a potato exhibition was also organized. On this occasion, 150 scientists, senior scientists and other people from different states were present.
