Dhoom of Nag Panchami in Ayodhya, devotees are feeding the snake by performing Jalabhishek in the Sheshawatar temple

Nag Panchami is being celebrated with great pomp in Ramnagari Ayodhya. While Jalabhishek is being done in all the Shiva temples of the district, there is a crowd of devotees in the Seshavatar temple on the Saryu coast. Shesavatar is being Jalabhishek. Milk is also being fed to the snake outside the temple. Devotees are going out of the temple and feeding the snake after getting out of the temple. It is believed that Maharaja Janmejaya performed a yajna to avenge the death of his father Parikshit, who was murdered by King Takshak of snakes. The day the yagna was stopped, it was Shukla Paksha Panchami of Sawan month. During this yajna, Rishi Vaishmapayan described the entire Mahabharata for the first time. That day has been celebrated as Nag Panchami since then. There is also a tradition of beating the doll on this day.
