Shortly after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath returned from Ayodhya, the Khandasa police here arrested Shahban, the main accused of raping a teenager, in an encounter. The accused has been shot in the right leg. He has been admitted to the district hospital.
During vehicle checking at around 9 pm, the police stopped two suspicious persons going from Satnapur Canal to Vinayakpur Mor. When stopped, the suspicious persons opened fire on the police team. In the retaliatory fire from the police team, one person got shot in the right leg. The other one fled from the spot taking advantage of the darkness. On being questioned, the injured person revealed his name as Shahban son of Mohammad Waris (24). The name of the person who fled was said to be Monu son of Yaar Mohammad.
During interrogation, it was found that the person injured by the police bullet is the main accused wanted for raping the teenager. A motorcycle, a 315 bore pistol, a live cartridge and a shell were recovered from the arrested accused. SHO Vivek Kumar Singh has registered a case against Shahban under the Arms Act and Attack on Police Party.
