Principal explaining to the doctors who were protesting in the medical college.
Ayodhya. A drunk attendant slapped a female junior doctor in the labor room of Medical College Darshan Nagar late on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, the angry junior residents went on strike and started a sit-in protest in the OPD. After several rounds of talks with the principal who arrived on the spot, the doctors calmed down on the assurance of action. Meanwhile, the police have taken the accused attendant into custody and challaned him. During the uproar, registration and OPD services were disrupted for about two hours.
On Wednesday night at around 12:30, Poonam Devi, a resident of Bhadokhar in Purakalandar police station area, was brought to the medical college Darshannagar labour room by her husband Ram Bahadur and other attendants. When male attendants were prevented from entering, the patient’s brother-in-law Ravindra Yadav got angry. He got into a scuffle with junior doctor Sweekriti and another doctor. After this, the doctors got furious. When the uproar increased, the police reached the spot and took the accused attendant into custody and settled the matter at that time. But the doctors’ anger did not subside.
On Thursday morning, junior residents of all departments, other PG residents and many doctors gathered in the OPD and at around 09:30 they started a sit-in demonstration in the OPD premises. Principal Dr. Gyanendra Kumar arrived on the spot and talked to the doctors, but the doctors remained adamant on their demand for action against the accused. They protested in front of the principal by holding placards with slogans like “Doctor’s bad condition, Ayodhya’s hospitals in bad condition”, “Ramrajya or Gundaraj”, “Loud goons deaf administration”, “Stop violence against doctors”. The doctors calmed down after being assured of registering a case against the accused attendant.
Treatment did not start without registration
Registration could not be done for almost two hours due to the sit-in protest by junior doctors in front of the registration counter in the OPD. Patients suffering from various diseases arrived from far off places and had to wait for a long time for the doctors to calm down.
Junior doctors left the wards as well, health services remained disrupted
After the advice of senior doctors in the wards, the responsibility of taking complete care of the patient rests on the shoulders of junior doctors. In such a situation, due to their agitation, the wards became empty of doctors. There were many problems in taking rounds and treating the patients properly since morning.
