There was waterlogging on the road from Naka to Janaura.
Ayodhya. A short spell of rain has painted a grim picture of the coming days in the city. Waterlogging occurred in the low lying areas of the city. The situation was a little worse in the areas where roads were being widened and drains and ducts were being constructed. People had difficulty in commuting on the roads and streets here. In such a situation, people in many areas of the city were worried about being submerged by imagining the torrential rain after the arrival of the monsoon.
On Friday, between 4 am and 6 am, many areas of the district received light and slightly heavy rain at different times. For example, at 5 am, it was raining lightly in Civil Lines, while at the same time, it was raining heavily on the Lucknow-Gorakhpur highway and its surrounding areas. In just 10 to 15 minutes of rain, Naka-Janaura Marg, Tulsi Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Gulab Nagar, the underpass of Janaura Overbridge, Beniganj Railway Crossing and some lanes of Khwaspura along with many other low-lying areas were waterlogged.
The most problems were faced in those areas of Chaudah Kosi and Panchkosi Parikrama Marg, where road widening along with construction of drains and ducts is going on. The previous drainage system has been discontinued in these areas. In such a situation, there was a lot of waterlogging due to lack of any system to drain out water during rains. Naka-Janaura Marg and some other areas of Janaura became an example of this. The same situation was seen at some places on the Raebareli Marg. Due to this, people had trouble commuting on foot and by vehicles.
Sitaram, a resident of Janaura, said that even on normal days, many localities and roads here get flooded. Today, after the rain, the problem has increased further. According to Sudhir Tiwari, who regularly travels on the Naka-Janaura road, water drainage is obstructed due to the slow construction of drains in this area. If there is more rain, the situation will worsen. Then it will be difficult to drain out the water even by installing a pump.
Complaints of waterlogging have been received in the areas connected to Chaudah Kosi and Panchkosi Parikrama Marg. There was already a problem due to various construction works at these places. Water drainage is done from time to time by making alternative arrangements. PWD has been asked to complete the work here first so that the drainage system can be streamlined before the regular rains. Cleaning of all the drains has been completed in the rest of the city. -Santosh Sharma, Municipal Commissioner
