Police has arrested a young man with an illegal pistol on the way to Ramlala Darshan. Two other companions who accompanied him have also been detained. However, no objectionable items have been recovered from the companions. A case has been registered against the main accused. Meanwhile, police, STF and intelligence department officials are interrogating the accused.
Ramjanmabhoomi SHO Devendra Pandey said that on Sunday afternoon at around 12:15, devotees were being checked on the way to Ramlala’s Darshan. Meanwhile, three youths entered from the front of Birla Dharamshala and reached the Pilgrimage Facilitation Center. During the investigation, an illegal pistol was found from one of the youths. The youth was identified as Sumit Singh, a resident of Pandeypur in Lalpur police station area of Varanasi. All three were taken into custody and brought to the police station, where they were interrogated for a long time.
He told that during interrogation it was found that the accused Sumit Singh is an employee in a big hotel in Varanasi. His friend Rahul Sonkar, a resident of Lalpur police station area, had fired in the air at his biryani shop on March 25. A case was registered against him in the matter. He is currently on bail. At that time the illegal pistol used in the firing was not recovered, but Sumit used to roam around with the same pistol. He also came to visit Ramlala with the same pistol, where he was caught. No criminal history of Sumit Singh has come to light so far, but his background is being investigated. His activities are also being investigated through CCTV.
Security agencies have pricked up their ears
After the youth reached the high security zone with illegal weapons, the security agencies have also become alert. Apart from the police, teams of STF, ATS, IB and other intelligence agencies and high officials have started investigating the case closely. The security personnel deployed in the premises have also been alerted.
